The daughter of Tāne Mahuta and Hine Tītama, Hine-rau-whārangi is our atua, the personification of growth, in both vegetation
and in humankind. She is the guardian of Te Ao Mārama, watching over us during our time in this world.

KURAMĀRŌTINI
Our brave, adventurous Āriki from Hawaiki, Kuramārōtini travelled from Hawaiki with Kupe, on her waka Matawhaorua.
When they arrived to Aotearoa and saw land, she called out 'He ao, he ao, he Aotearoa!' naming our land after the long white cloud.

Hina, our moon, was one of the wives of Māui. Representing the lunar cycle, the many facets of darkness
and light, and influencer of the rhythms of the ocean. She is also considered a kaitiaki of wāhine, childbirth, and weaving.
